Who do you report to?
There are three agencies primarily involved in child protection procedures, which are the Police Departments, Government Hospitals and the Social Welfare Department. Suspected cases can be reported to these agencies by anyone, regardless of age, gender, religion, or profession.
All reports of suspected child abuse and neglect will be kept confidential. Your identity will not be released to anyone without your written consent, except under direct court order. Under Section 116 of the Child Act 2001, a person who makes any notification that a child is in need of protection shall not incur any liability for defamation or otherwise,nor be held in breach of professional ethics. Any person appearing as a witness in any proceeding shall not be compelled to and shall not disclose the identity of any person who has made a report that a child is in need of protection.
